Current development situation: After over 50 years’ development, the ship-building industry of Zhenjiang City is featuring by bright ship-building characteristics and boasts a complete set of auxiliary industries. By the end of 2006, there’re a total of 50 ship-building industrial enterprises, among which 18 are vessel repairing enterprises and the other 32 are enterprises auxiliary to ship-building sector. Industrial positioning: The ship-building industry will be cultivated into a research and development base for ship technologies motivated by self innovation, a ship-building base with serial characteristics products, and an auxiliary base for ship-building focusing on products with high-added values. Development goals: By 2010 the ship-building industry of Zhenjiang City will achieve an annual output value of 15 billion to 20 billion yuan, and by 2020 the figure is estimated to reach 80 million to 100 billion yuan. Industrial layout: 1. Overall layout of assembled zones of ship-building industry (1) Longmen Port & Gaozi Port Zone: The zone is located to the northwestern side of the city proper of Zhenjiang, and close to Runyang Bridge and port areas, where the river trend is steady and geological situation is good. As a region with the faster and earlier development in ship-building industry in Zhenjiang, the zone has been kept amongst the development program of Jiangsu Province during the 11th Five-year Plan period, and is a key area of Zhenjiang for development of ship-building industry during the 11th Five-Year Plan period and a base for production, learning and research for vessels of inner rivers. (2) Xinminzhou Zone: With usable river lines reaching 5280 meters and water depth of more than 10 meters, the zone boasts stable riverbed and better geological situation and some 10,000 mu river beaches, providing rare conditions for building large-scale ship-building enterprises, where is fit for building 100,000 tonnage vessels. It’s planned to build two or three 50,000-100,000 tonnage shipyards. (3)Yangzhong Tuanjie Port to Shengli River Zone: With a planned area totaling some 5 square kilometers, about 7.1 kilometers long bank lines and the water depth reaching 10 meters, the zone bears open river surface and fine coordination conditions, fit for building enterprises of large vessels and general assembly for ocean-going equipments. It’s estimated that in the zone two or three 100,000 tonnage shipyards can be launched. (4)Jiajiang Ship-building Industrial Belt: The zone is located at Jiajiang section of the Yangtze River in Yangzhong City, and is planned to consist of Xilai Bridge, north side of the Second Yangtze River Bridge of Yangzhong, and areas from Magang Port to Zhenghai Port, where vessels below 5000 tonnage can be built. The zone is planned to build a batch of inner river shipyards with higher technological contents, separate part plants and outfit plants auxiliary to various large riverside shipyards in Zhenjiang even in the whole province, and strive to establish a base for production and processing of ship-use steel materials. 2. Assembled zone for ship-building auxiliary enterprises (1) Centralized Zone for Ship-building Auxiliary Enterprises of Zhenjiang New Area: Mainly introduce enterprises manufacturing maritime diesel engines, power generators, main switch boards, Personal flotation devices, ship anchor chain, marine propeller, and other marine mechanical and electrical products. (2) Longmen Port & Gaozi Port Zone: Develop enterprises related to ship-building industry like steel structure, port machinery, offshore platform structures, medium-speed diesel engines, and ship electrical appliances, etc. (3) Xinglong Zone of Yangzhong City: Give full play to current industrial strength in Yangzhong and mainly introduce enterprises manufacturing marine mechanic and electrical products. (4)Houxiang Ship Steel & Processing Zone of Danyang City: Develop enterprises engaging in pre-conditioning of ship steel plates and steel processing.
