Three leading industries Machinery industry In 2007 there’re 771 large-scale machinery enterprises involving a staff of 143,000 workers, whose sales income reached 58.77 billion yuan, accounting for 29% of the entire sales income of all large-scale industrial enterprises throughout the city. Chemicals industry In 2007 there’re 317 large-scale chemicals enterprises involving a staff of 43,000 workers, whose sales income reached 41.46 billion yuan, accounting for 20.5% of the entire sales income of all large-scale industrial enterprises throughout the city. The city boasts numerous backbone chemical enterprises like Sopo Group, Chi Mei Chemicals, Guo Heng Chemicals, Taibai Titanium Group, Jiangnan Chemicals, Hongda Chemicals, and Liancheng Chemicals forming various product systems in many fields like basic chemicals, fine chemicals, new chemical materials, and bio-pharmacy. The scale and market share of some products like acetic acid and engineering plastics rank the first place in the nation, and such products as acetic oxide, glyphosate and titanium white enjoy high popularity and reputation amongst the trade. Paper-making industry In 2007 there’re 37 large-scale paper-making enterprises involving a staff of 12,000 workers, whose sales income reached 12.79 billion yuan, accounting for 6.3% of the entire sales income of all large-scale industrial enterprises throughout the city. After years’ rapid development, the city’s paper-making and manufacturing of related paper products have taken on a considerable scale and enjoy high popularity within the circle, and so far a new setup has formed with Gold East Paper as the core, Dadong Paper and Jinhe Paper as the 2 wings, supplied by Donghai Paper, Anxing Paper, Laitaixiang Chemicals, Taibai Group, Zhenjiang Paper Cartons Factory, Jinlong Packaging, Henghua Color Printing, and backed up by the provincial-level and city-level technology research centers. Five characteristic industries Communications equipment industry In 2007 there’re 204 large-scale enterprises of communications equipments involving a staff of 29,000 workers, whose sales income reached 12.16 billion yuan, accounting for 6% of the entire sales income of all large-scale industrial enterprises throughout the city. The sector of communication equipments mainly consists of three categories of products: automobiles and accessories, ship-building and marine equipments, and bicycles and fittings with main products being light trucks, special vehicles, farm-use autos, special engineering ships and marine equipments, communications apparatus, bicycles, autos, motorbikes as well as fittings for bicycles. Power industry In 2007 there’re 9 large-scale power plants involving a staff of 5,000 workers, whose sales income reached 6.57 billion yuan, accounting for 3.2% of the entire sales income of all large-scale industrial enterprises throughout the city. Zhenjiang City boasts fine deep-water harbors along the Yangtze River, suitable for establishment of large-scale thermal power plants. Power industry has always been Zhenjiang’s traditional characteristic sector, and Jianbi Power Plant used to be the largest thermal power plant in China, playing a key role in the entire province. Electronics information industry In 2007 there’re 80 large-scale enterprises on electronics information involving a staff of 15,000 workers, whose sales income reached 4.42 billion yuan, accounting for 2.2% of the entire sales income of all large-scale industrial enterprises throughout the city. The city has a number of famous large-scale enterprises like Hongtu Electronics, Wenrun Optic-electronics, TCP Electronics, Smartch Optic-electronics, PROT Optic-electronics, Powertip Optic-electronics, and has formed serial electronic information products like TV sets, DVD, LCD, energy-saving lamps and digital cameras. New-type materials industry In 2007 there’re 87 large-scale enterprises on new-type materials involving a staff of 20,000 workers, whose sales income reached 16.05 billion yuan, accounting for 7.9% of the entire sales income of all large-scale industrial enterprises throughout the city. The main products include high-density graphite carbonic materials, AA Oxyride, lithiumion positive materials, new-type wall materials, high-density fiberboards, processing of petrol products, metallurgy of nonferrous metal, and processing of new-type wood, etc.
Priority industries & business-soliciting orientation Ship-building & marine equipment industry The sector includes making and maintenance of ships, and manufacturing of marine equipments, which are mainly distributed in urban areas of Zhenjiang, Danyang City and Yangzhong City. Presently the city has 40 relevant enterprises, amongst which Zhenjiang Anchor & Chains Factory is one of the world top 5 manufacturers.
