Zhenjiang, a fresh and beautiful city on the south bank of the Yangtze River, and inlaying at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, connects Shanghai to the east and Nanjing to the west. On the north bank across the Yangtze River, lies the city of Yangzhou. Being one of the 13 cities directly under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, Zhenjiang has the sub-cities of Danyang, Jurong and Yangzhong, Dantu District, Jingkou District, Runzhou District and Zhenjiang NewArea under its jurisdiction. Covering an area of 3,847km², it has a population of 3.019 million, among which 1.153 million are urban residents. Its fiscal revenue was 20.33 billion RMB, fixed assets investment 58.8 billion RMB, foreign trade and export US$ 3.69 billion, contracted utilization of foreign capital US$ 2.31 billion and actual utilization of foreign capital US$ 1.06 billion.

Zhenjiang enjoys superior development conditions. It¡¯s abundant in natural resources with various kinds of mineral products and pocesses unique tourism resources, advanced science, technology and education. The use of electricity and water in both urban and rural areas of Zhenjiang is popularized to 100 percent. Open area accounts for 41.1 percent. Road area for each person reaches 16.6m². The comprehensive level of infrastructure facilities takes the lead in Jiangsu Province.

Zhenjiang has abundant riverside bank line resources, and boasts a total of 269.7km-long riverside bank lines, amongst which 87.2km-long deep-water bank lines are below minus 10 meters. So far the 25km-long deep-water bank lines have been developed in the whole city. As a key pivot port in the comprehensive transportation network in the Yangtze River Delta and one of the main coastal ports in China, Zhenjiang Port processes 28 pier berths of 10,000 tons and above.
